Magnussen in Singapore:
2014 McLaren: qualified 9th, finished 10th
2015 did not enter
2016 Renault: qualified 17th, finished 10th
Kevin Magnussen raced for McLaren in 2014, but despite him scoring a podium on his debut at the Australian Grand Prix, the British team opted to sign Fernando Alonso for 2015 and demoted him to reserve driver. He was released towards the end of that year.
Although Magnussen did substitute for Alonso at the first Grand Prix of 2015, he did not make it to the grid as his car broke down before the start of the race. His Renault deal for 2016 was only announced at the last minute, when the team dropped Pastor Maldonado.
Last year was a difficult season for both Renault and Magnussen due to the limitations of the RS16 car, but he did score the majority of the Enstone-based team’s eight points, largely thanks to his seventh place finish at the Russian Grand Prix.
When Renault dithered over which drivers to sign for 2017, Magnussen opted to switch to Haas and will race for his third Formula One team in four years as a result.
Magnussen won races throughout his junior single seater career, which culminated with the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2013 before his promotion to Formula One with McLaren.
