22 September 2019, Singapore - Sebastian Vettel won the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2019 for Ferrari: this is how the 61-lap race unfolded.
Lap 1: Scare for Leclerc before the start with an apparent technical issue, but he is in the car for the lights – and makes a superb start as Ferrari teammate Vettel fights desperately to get past Hamilton’s Mercedes but can’t; front-wing damage on Russell’s Williams way back in the pack after a tap from Ricciardo’s relegated Renault in the first corner.
Lap 2: Hülkenberg pits the other Renault after picking up a puncture in contact with Sainz’s McLaren on the first lap at Turn 5; Leclerc a full second ahead after the opening lap; Sainz also in as the ‘best of the rest‘ battle between McLaren and Renault sees early drama. Can Nico make it to the end on this set of hard tyres? Meanwhile Carlos lost more than a minute as the crew struggled with the right rear tyre…
Lap 3-4: Leclerc’s lead hovering around the one-second mark as Hamilton has apparently seen off Vettel’s challenge for now; Verstappen’s Red Bull still in the fourth place from which it started; top six – the top three teams – pulling clear of the field Sainz now complaining there is something wrong with his car.
Lap 5-6: Leclerc inching away to a 1.3-second lead; Vettel almost two seconds down on Hamilton; Norris best of the rest now in seventh place, 8.8 seconds behind the leader. ‘Like a lot of boxers dancing around a ring’ says Red Bull boss Christian Horner as the running order shakes out and his second driver Alex Albon is sixth on his first Marina Bay start.
Lap 7-8: the entertainment is, as so often, coming from Ricciardo, now up to 13th after his latest pass on Stroll’s Racing Point – ‘Let’s go boys,’ says the Honey Badger to his pit crew; Bottas is now the Mercedes meat in a fairly compressed Red Bull sandwich, while Russell’s Williams is currently the outright fastest car on track – in 19th place.
Lap 9-10: Hamilton complaining about the race pace, telling his crew ‘I can’t really go much slower’ – will this change when the first round of pit stops and the change to Medium – or Hard – tyres comes around? Ricciardo – on Mediums after his demotion – is up to 12th now past Kvyat’s Toro Rosso and Perez in the Racing Point.
Lap 11-12: Perez has been watching Ricciardo and puts his own brilliant move on Kvyat to slot in behind teammate Stroll; Leclerc is now 1.4 ahead, and Bottas is being asked to cool down his front left brake caliper; Kvyat in for tyres.
Lap 13-14: Hülkenberg’s fightback now has the Renault behind Grosjean’s Haas in 15th and 16th – the seat Nico was hoping to take for 2020 after being told he is no longer required by Renault; Perez next to pit and stays ahead of Kvyat; Hamilton is slowly pegging Leclerc back, the lead briefly down to 0.7 – until Ferrari tell their man to return to ‘Mode Race’.
Lap 16-17: Räikkönen pits in the Alfa but is frustrated by Kubica’s Williams when he comes back out; the newly reshod Perez is now fastest man on track; Leclerc has taken orders to heart and the gap to Hamilton is now almost two seconds; Lewis is feeling the drop-off in his tyres. And Hülkenberg is still bottled up behind Grosjean…
Lap 18-20: Hamilton is hanging in there behind Leclerc as they edge away from Vettel and Verstappen; Vettel is first of the big boys to pit as Verstappen also goes in for tyres – both take the hard compound – and the Ferrari comes out ahead; Hamilton asks for the undercut but it’s Ferrari who bring Leclerc in – and Hamilton stays out.
Lap 21: Vettel comes round and goes ahead as Leclerc emerges, also on hard tyres; Hamilton stays out again; ‘What the hell?’ asks Leclerc as his engineer tells him to push – why did Ferrari give Vettel first stop and how did he end up in front of the Monegasque?
Lap 23: Bottas is first Mercedes man to pit, while Hamilton’s potential advantage is evaporating; Vettel has set fastest lap in sixth, with Leclerc behind him; now the potential front-runners are about to run into mid-race traffic in the shape of cars that have yet to pit; Bottas is now fastest man on track. Can Vettel and Leclerc get clear of traffic and get away from Mercedes? Or have Mercedes gambled wisely, hoping fresher tyres at the end will help their main man?
Lap 26: Leclerc, stuck behind his teammate, is struggling with his tyres already; Hamilton pits – so Giovinazzi leads! – and rejoins ahead of Bottas in eighth place; Giovinazzi’s Alfa, Gasly’s Toro Rosso and Ricciardo’s Renault are the top three yet to pit; Leclerc now spends valuable time bottled up behind Stroll’s Racing Point.
Lap 29-30: Vettel takes Ricciardo, Leclerc takes Stroll as the Ferraris try to attack, but Verstappen’s Red Bull is still behind Stroll; Vettel aggressively overtakes Gasly and is now second – but being told to take care of his rear tyres. Next to be picked off is Giovinazzi so Vettel leads.
Lap 33-34: Leclerc now passes Giovinazzi so we have a Ferrari 1-2 – but will they hold station? The #16 Ferrari is six seconds behind the #5… but we have 27 laps to run; coming-together between Ricciardo and Giovinazzi, damage to the Renault and all Daniel’s hard work goes to waste; meanwhile Leclerc has set fastest lap of 1:45.054 and taken a second off Vettel.
Lap 35: Ricciardo pits, takes hard tyres; the ‘real’ top six – the top three teams – are now back in place – just as Russell’s Williams hits the wall after being tagged by Grosjean’s Haas at Turn 8 and the SAFETY CAR is deployed on lap 36, maintaining Singapore’s 100% record; ‘I shouldn’t be surprised,’ says the Englishman. It’s the first retirement for Williams this year.
Lap 37: Leclerc is told to keep his head down, says he will do so but ‘You know my feeling’ as he still doesn’t understand what Ferrari have done by undercutting him; the two men are told they will be racing each other on the restart but not to take any risks.
Lap 41: Safety Car in, racing resumes; Stroll and Gasly bang wheels as they fight over P11, the Toro Rosso winning that battle; the Ferraris have opened a gap on Verstappen and the two Mercedes cars; Stroll now has a puncture and front-wing damage and comes in after clouting the wall at Turn 17.
Lap 43-44: Great fight between Hülkenberg and Gasly while Perez is bringing the second Racing Point to a stop between Turns 13 and 14 – SECOND SAFETY CAR deployed; Leclerc says ‘I want everything’ as Ferrari tell him what to use on the restart but insists he will do nothing to jeopardise a 1-2 finish.
Lap 48: Safety Car in, racing resumes; Magnussen’s Haas loses two places in one corner as Gasly and Hülkenberg breeze past to eighth and ninth respectively; Ricciardo loses out in a fight with Grosjean; Vettel gets the jump on Leclerc to the tune of just over a second at the end of the lap and the two Ferraris have a gap on Verstappen’s Red Bull.
Lap 49: Kvyat and Räikkönen collide through the opening corners, Kimi comes off worse and retires with damaged suspension; THIRD SAFETY CAR deployed and the two-hour limit becomes a strong possibility.
Lap 52: Safety Car in, racing resumes – and the experienced Vettel catches everyone napping down the main straight; behind the leaders Sainz’s McLaren is the car on the move as the Spaniard tries to rescue a point, currently in 12th, while midfield rival Hülkenberg is reporting ‘something weird’ in his Renault in P9; Vettel is again a second clear of Leclerc at the end of the first racing lap.
Lap 54-56: Vettel seems to have it all under control, maintaining a one-second gap to Leclerc; the German sets a new fastest lap on lap 56 and goes 1.418 clear, then extends that to more than two seconds as Leclerc has a lock-up over Anderson Bridge.
Lap 59: Hamilton has not given up on a podium place and is hunting down Verstappen, now just 0.7 behind the Dutchman who yells ‘I need more power’ over his radio; Gasly is also in hot pursuit of Norris’s McLaren for P7; neither succeeds so the top 10 is Vettel-Leclerc-Verstappen-Hamilton-Bottas-Albon-Norris-Gasly-Hülkenberg-Giovinazzi.

Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific
Philippe Prette has made his mark in Singapore, having dominated both Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific races at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Prette, again on pole for Race 2 on Sunday, took the lead into Turn 1, and never looked back. Go Max rose up to secure second, after starting fifth, while Kazuyuki Yamaguchi defended hard against David Pun and Nobuhiro Imada to secure the final podium place.
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia series leader Philip Hamprecht has returned to winning ways at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, securing victory in Sunday’s Race 2, holding off Race 1 winner Daniel Lu in a thrilling battle. Just seven tenths of a second separating the pair at the chequered flag. Tanart Sathienthirakul completed the podium, 3.7 seconds behind Lu, for his first rostrum visit at this year’s event. The top-three within 4.4 seconds after the 12-lap race.

21 September 2019, Singapore - Charles Leclerc rewrote the Marina Bay Street Circuit form books by taking a stunning pole position, his fifth of the season and his third in a row, for Ferrari ahead of the 61-lap Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2019 on Sunday.
Leclerc took a serious mortgage on his third successive race win as well with a stunning final lap of 1 minute 36.217 seconds, good enough to relegate four-time Singapore pole-winner Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes to second place on the grid.
‘What a lap! What a lap! I lost control three times!’ radioed the 21-year-old Monegasque driver, winner at Spa and Monza since the summer break. ‘The team has done an amazing job to bring the package we needed and I am extremely happy to be on pole for tomorrow.’
Dismissed as contenders for pole or victory in Singapore, Ferrari confounded all expectations. In the other scarlet car, Sebastian Vettel looked all set to silence critics of his 2019 form when his first run in the third section of qualifying put him on top, but an erratic second run which he aborted cost him his own fourth pole position in Singapore.
Max Verstappen, expected to fight Hamilton for pole, will start alongside Vettel on row two, while rookie teammate Alex Albon performed outstandingly well and will start sixth behind the second Mercedes of a low-key Valtteri Bottas.
The Q1 shoot-out pitched Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull against each other for the top places on the grid, but the two McLarens and both Renaults were also fighting it out for ‘best of the rest’ as they are doing in the Constructors’ Championship.
Carlos Sainz won that battle by putting his McLaren on row four, but the Renaults of Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hülkenberg are menacingly close in eighth and ninth. F1’s other stand-out rookie Lando Norris completed the top ten in the second McLaren.
Two drivers only just made it into the qualifying hour: Daniil Kvyat needed repairs on an oil leak to his Toro Rosso, while Sergio Perez’s Racing Point took a new gearbox – and a five-place grid penalty – after hitting the wall hard on the outside of Turn 22 in third practice.
Both teams performed heroics to get their men on track again, and in the last seconds of Q1 Perez just edged Kvyat out. Perez could get no further than Q2, in which he was eliminated by an agonising 0.040s along with the two Alfa Romeo drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen, who clouted the wall hard, Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly and the second Haas of Kevin Magnussen.

Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific
Philippe Prette led lights-to-flag in race one of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The series leader looked in control from the outset, and built a comfortable cushion after taking the lead into Turn 1. It was a different story in the fast and furious battle for second place, with Go Max fighting his way forward from fourth on the grid. Kazuyuki Yamaguchi was third, closing out the podium.
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia
Daniel Lu has earned his first win of the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, rising up to take victory in Race 1. Martin Ragginer was second for his eighth podium this season, while series leader Philip Hamprecht closed out the podium.

19 September 2019, Singapore - Singapore Airlines (SIA) will continue to be the Title Sponsor of the FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX for two more years, until 2021.
The Singapore Grand Prix is one of Formula 1's premier racing events as drivers race through the Marina Bay Circuit, a street track against the city's famous skyline as its spectacular backdrop.
SIA first signed as Title Sponsor in 2014 for four years and subsequently extended it for two years, through the 2019 race. The agreement to extend the sponsorship for two more years was announced today by SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong and Formula 1 Chairman and CEO Chase Carey.
"The Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix is a major event in Singapore's sporting calendar, drawing huge crowds to view the exhiliarating Night Race and associated entertainment line-ups. We are please to be continuing as title sponsor, and helping to further enhance both sports and tourism for the benefit of Singaporeans and visitors alike," said Mr Goh.
Added Mr Carey: "We are very pleased that Singapore Airlines will continue to be the title sponsor for the Singapore Grand Prix until 2021. Singapore Airlines has been working closely with Formula 1 at the Marina Bay Circuit since 2014 and during that time we have seen brilliant races under the lights of an amazing circuit. As one of the premier events on the race calendar, loved by the fans and drivers, it is a perfect fit for us to work alongside the national airline of Singapore. We are looking forward to this year's race that should, if the past eleven years is anything to go by, provide an amazing spectacle and a physically demanding race for the drivers."
The Marina Bay Circuit spans 5.063km with 23 corners, a bumpy street surface, tight corners and humid conditions. The circuit also boasts some of the most unique features of any track on the F1 calendar, including Turn 18, which sees the drivers pass underneath a grandstand.

Based on the current PSI levels, there are no plans to amend the published racing and entertainment programme.
The haze situation is highly changeable not only from day to day, but from hour to hour. Therefore, it is currently not possible to reliably predict what the PSI level might be over the race weekend. We will continue to work closely with all the relevant government authorities to receive the best possible forecasts when they are available.

18 March 2019, Singapore - Fresh from the classic, sweeping surrounds of Spa-Francorchamps and Monza, the ten Formula 1 teams this weekend face what Pirelli’s Head of F1 and Car Racing Mario Isola calls ‘a significant reset’ when they visit Singapore for the 12th time. This year, the spectacular Marina Bay Street Circuit has an additional DRS Zone after Turn 13, making it three in total, with the others being the zones after Turn 5 and Turn 23.
Pirelli’s tyres – Hard, Medium and Soft are the compounds on offer – are not the only components that will face extreme stresses during 61 laps of the 23-corner, 5.063-kilometre track.
“It’s the most physically demanding race of the year,” says Haas driver Kevin Magnussen – and K-Mag should know, as he holds the lap record at 1 minute 41.905 seconds.
“It’s really a physical race for a few different reasons,’ explains F1’s Great Dane, who will turn 27 two weeks after this year’s Singapore race. “One, it’s really hot. Two, you don’t ever really get any rest on the lap. You’re constantly working the steering wheel. There’s not a lot of straight line on the track. Three, because the average speed of a lap is so slow, the race usually goes to the two-hour limit.”
So does everything else, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is quick to point out. “I really like this kind of weekend,” says Verstappen, who finished second here last year, “as it’s so different to a normal race. The track is very demanding – it’s hot, it’s physical and you sweat a lot, but it’s one of my favourites.”
And at this stage Max, a two-time winner this season, is looking no farther ahead than Saturday. “Overtaking is very tricky,” he adds, “so qualifying is the key – you have to nail it!”
Verstappen is on his second new teammate of 2019 following Red Bull’s decision to promote 22-year-old Alexander Albon from ‘junior’ team Toro Rosso for the last nine races of the year and demote Pierre Gasly.
“I’m interested to see what it’s all about,” says Thai-British driver Albon of Singapore, where he expects family and friends from his nearby homeland to swell the ranks of spectators. “It will be good fun, especially as I’ve never raced anywhere quite like it before.” He said it…
By the way, if K-Mag sets fastest race lap again, and finishes in the top ten, he will score an extra point for that feat, a rule brought in this season that has already added late-race spice to several rounds of the 2019 World Championship.
Two men arrive in Singapore with four race wins here to their credit, but they could hardly arrive in different moods. Lewis Hamilton once again leads the drivers’ standings, 63 points clear of Mercedes sidekick Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton is unfazed by defeat in the last two rounds: “I’m not looking to the next race thinking it will be easy for us,” he maintains, “instead we’re going to go to the factory and go through the same process, looking for ways to improve our car, improve our processes over a race weekend, and I hope that I can do a better job in Singapore.”
So does Sebastian Vettel, our other four-time winner, who has slipped to fifth overall and now sits behind new Ferrari partner Charles Leclerc, who took his first wins for the scarlet team in Belgium and Italy.
“This moment must be so dark for him,” said 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg of Vettel after Monza, where his German compatriot incurred the wrath of officialdom for an unsafe re-entry to the track following a spin. “His teammate just became an absolute Ferrari legend and has taken the number-one status in the team, probably, from him.”
But a defiant Vettel comes to Marina Bay ready to disprove his growing army of critics. “The speed is there so I am not worried,’ claims the 32-year-old. “It’s just a matter of putting things together.”
Leclerc, still just 21, has put things together so well in his first season with Ferrari that he lies just three points behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen as they head into the final, fly-away phase of the 21-race season.
After Monza, where he became the first Ferrari man to win since 2010, Leclerc may have to change his tune about his ‘normal’ approach to an event. “When I arrive at a race weekend I usually don’t think about winning,” claimed the young Monegasque, “I just try to do the best job possible and tell myself that the results will come.” Yeah, right, Charles…
While Leclerc looks to become just the fifth driver to tame the Lion City, the midfield battle grows fiercer with each race. McLaren are currently ‘best of the rest’ behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, but a resurgent Renault are desperate to hunt them down.
“It’s been bumpy this year,” admits the Anglo-French team’s principal Cyril Abiteboul, who oversaw Renault’s best result, not just this year but since their F1 return in 2016, when Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hülkenberg finished fourth and fifth respectively in Italy last time out.
But Abiteboul is not getting carried away: “The weaknesses of the car are still here,” he added. “That’s why I’m not overjoyed, because I know there will be tough times ahead of us in the season.” Starting right here, right now…
Abiteboul’s McLaren counterpart Andreas Seidl is not getting carried away either. “Of course we want to fight for this P4 [in the Constructors’ Championship] as long as possible,” he claims, “but at the same time for us it’s a lot more important to make the next step with next year’s car. So I don’t want to compromise next year…”
Further back in the standings, Alfa Romeo Racing’s Frédéric Vasseur is also looking to build on his young driver Antonio Giovinazzi’s best F1 result to date, a ninth place in Monza two weeks ago, but he knows the pitfalls that lie ahead.
“Singapore is a weekend that asks a lot from everyone in the team,” says Vasseur. “The margins in the midfield are very small, even on a relatively long lap like in Singapore, and every detail makes a difference.”
Searching for the details that may help him get back to the ‘senior’ Red Bull team after his shock return to Toro Rosso in the summer, Pierre Gasly hopes Marina Bay may be just the place for him.
“The lap runs at a high pace with loads of corners,” says the 23-year-old French driver, “so you don’t pause for breath. But I like that. I love very technical, twisty tracks where you have to get into a rhythm.”
And Gasly – for whom two fastest laps in China and Monaco were among his Red Bull highlights – sums up Singapore to perfection.
“Maybe it’s the most difficult race of the season,” he says, “but it’s also the most exciting.”

The musical duo Lighthouse Family – made up of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and producer/keyboardist Paul Tucker – are making their return in 2019 after nearly two decades with their fourth album ‘Blue Sky In Your Head’. One of the biggest British bands of the 1990s, the easy listening pop and soul group rose to fame with hit singles Lifted, Ocean Drive and High.
They scored three top 10 records with their 1995 debut ‘Ocean Drive’ peaking at number three and going platinum six times. Their 1997 follow up album ‘Postcards From Heaven’, featuring three Top Ten singles - Raincloud, High and Lost in Space - also went platinum six times, charting across Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. After their third album ‘Whatever Gets You Through The Day’ featuring the Top Ten single Free/One, the duo took time off to work on their solo careers before resurrecting Lighthouse Family in 2019 with the latest album celebrating their 25-year recording history.
Prior to their sold-out 2019 United Kingdom tour, the duo will be performing in select Asian cities, including Singapore at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Fans can look forward to enjoying their classic hits at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre (Zone 4) on 21 September.

Dining with the Stars
A world of gastronomical delights await guests as Twenty3 brings together five Michelin stars within a 3,000 sqm trackside facility, taking discerning diners on a culinary journey.

Another chef making his Singapore debut at Twenty3, Chef Tiago Bonito of Portugal's one Michelin-starred Largo do Paço, pays homage to his roots by reinterpreting classic recipes while incorporating an assortment of unique ingredients not traditionally used in Portuguese cuisine. Highlights include the Veal of Milk with Smoked Celery, Asparagus and Madeira Wine as well as the Sea Bass, Crustaceans "Xerém", Seaweed and Champagne.
